Shared vs VPS Hosting: What a Growing Kenyan Business Actually Needs
June 30, 2026Ask five agencies in Nairobi to quote the same website and you’ll get five very different numbers. That isn’t always overcharging or undercutting. Usually it’s because each quote includes different things, and nobody has explained what those things are.
The four things that set the price
Size. Every page needs structure, content and testing. A five-page business site and a thirty-page corporate site are different jobs, even if they look alike.
How custom the design is. A site built on a well-made theme and adapted to your brand costs less than one designed from a blank page. Both can be good. Custom design earns its cost when your brand, audience or conversion goals don’t fit a standard layout.
Features. Booking calendars, M-Pesa checkout, multilingual content and member areas each add real development and testing time.
Who writes the words. Copywriting is the most underestimated part of any project. If you supply content, check it’s ready before the build starts; late content is the most common cause of delays.
Typical ranges we see
- Single landing page: KSh 20,000–40,000
- Business website (5–10 pages): KSh 35,000–90,000
- Corporate website (12+ pages): KSh 75,000–250,000
- Online store: from KSh 130,000
Red flags in a quote
Be careful with quotes that don’t list pages or features, that bundle “free hosting forever”, or that leave you without admin access to your own site. You should always own your domain, your content and your logins.
